Hilary –Nursery Manager BA(Hons) EYP & Forest School Practitioner

I have been working in Early Years Education since 2000. I fell into Early Years by accident. I used to help out as a mum and really enjoyed it. So when an opening became available at my children’s nursery, I jumped at the opportunity. I’ve not really looked back. Initially qualifying with my Level 3 in 2004, I went on to study for an Early Years Degree, which I achieved in July 2008. I also have Early Years Professional Status (2010) and continue to update my knowledge now having have additional qualifications in both Creativity and Speech and Language Support. I qualified as a Forest School leader in 2017. I became the Manager of St Michael’s in September 2008, and still consider myself lucky to be working in such a fantastic environment with a supportive team of colleagues and parents. I’m a farmer’s daughter so have a natural love of the outdoors and I’m delighted we have our own nursery chickens! I have two dogs, who are my babies now that my own children have both left school!

I moved to England in 1998 from Czech Republic. I am married to Paul and we have three children, two girls, Anna and Eliska and a boy, Daniel. I started to work in childcare as a childminder in 2003 in Dorking. Working with children has inspired me and since than I have studied from NVQ3 up to BA (hons)  in Early Years Education and Childcare, which I completed in July 2012. I joined St Michael's Community Nursery in 2010 as a nursery practitioner and in 2014 became the Deputy Manager. I am truly passionate about play and the outdoor environment so I was naturally excited to complete my Forest School practitioner qualification in 2012.

The nursery was established in 1993 by a group of parents and is run by a voluntary committee of enthusiastic parents who have the common goal of providing a high standard of nursery education locally.
